HONG HONG: Protesters Shut Down Airport

Flights are cancelled at Hong Kong’s international airport for a second straight day as protesters continue to fill the terminal.

Demonstrators took over the airport, which is the eighth busiest in the world, on Monday forcing the cancellation of more than 200 flights. Protesters continued to disrupt operations today and thousands of travelers have been scrambling to find other accommodations.

Hong Kong has seen an escalation of demonstrations this summer, some turning violent at times. People are angry about what they see as the erosion of their democracy and freedoms and their autonomy from mainland China. (USA Today)
