Donald Trump has big plans for the Fourth of July. The Salute to America parade on Thursday will show off America’s military might, including tanks.
But it’s not without controversy. Officials in Washington, D.C. are concerned that the tanks will damage the city’s streets, while at least one member of Congress has criticized the parade as nothing more than a Trump vanity project.
Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday, “We’re going to have planes going overhead – the best fighter jets in the world and other planes too. And we’re going to have some tanks stationed outside. He added that the parade will “be like no other, it’ll be special.” (BBC)

“We got to be pretty careful with the tanks because the roads have the tendency not to carry heavy tanks, so we have to put them in certain areas. We have the brand new Sherman tanks and the brand new Abram tanks and we have some incredible military equipment on display.”
- The D.C. city council tweeted, “We have said it before, and we’ll say it again. Tanks, but not tanks.”
- Air traffic in D.C. will be stopped for more than two hours due to the military flyover.
- Even Trump acknowledged that the tanks could cause a problem.
- Trump talked about Sherman tanks being included, but the Word War Two-era armored vehicles have been out of service since the ’50s.
