In the latest twist in the Democrats’ quest to get Donald Trump‘s tax returns, the House filed suit Tuesday against the Treasury Department and the IRS.
The suit means the battle will now head to the federal courts and may eventually end up in the Supreme Court.
In the court papers filed Tuesday, the House said that the Trump administration’s refusal is “an extraordinary attack on the authority of Congress to obtain information needed to conduct oversight of Treasury, the IRS and the tax laws on behalf of the American people.” It requests that the judge order the defendants to hand over Trump’s tax returns.
