Billionaire and onetime independent Presidential candidate H. Ross Perot has died. He was 89.
Perot, who built his fortune in the computer services industry, made the most successful independent run for the White House in history in 1992. Although Bill Clinton beat him and Bob Dole out, Perot garnered 19 percent of the popular vote.
Perot was diagnosed with leukemia five months ago but continued to work and celebrated his birthday last month. He and his charitable foundations donated hundreds of millions of dollars over the years, particularly to education causes.
He’s survived by his wife Margot and five children. (Dallas Morning News)
