Instagram: Want to Help you Take Back Hurtful Post

Ever posted something on Instagram and instantly wished you could take it back? The company wants to help you.

The Facebook-owned social media platform is rolling out a new feature that will analyze your comments and, if something appears to be confrontational, ask if you really want to post it. Instagram says, “From early tests of this feature, we have found that it encourages some people to undo their comment and share something less hurtful once they have had a chance to reflect.”

Another new feature will allow you to keep certain posters’ comments from appearing on your feed without their knowing you’re filtering them out. Instagram says blocking or muting users can escalate situations.

Hot Takes:

  • It usually takes me more than three seconds to think better of my angry Instagram comments.
  • I don’t want AI analyzing my comments. That’s a slippery slope to automated censorship.
  • Finally, some actual anti-bullying tech that could even work a little bit.
