Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was sentenced to life plus 30 years in prison today for drug trafficking.
In addition to spending the rest of his life locked up in a maximum security prison in Colorado, the 62-year-old will have to forfeit $12.6 billion he made from running his drug enterprise. While the prosecution was pleased with the judge’s sentencing, “El Chapo” told the courtroom “there was no justice here.” (USA Today)
Hot Takes:
- He’ll spend the rest of his life in prison unless he figures out how to escape — again.
- The sentence really comes as no surprise. He’s a ruthless monster who killed and tortured people.
- He chose not to testify in his trial. It probably wouldn’t have made a difference anyway.
