John Paul Stevens: Former Supreme Court Justice dies at 99

John Paul Stevens, the former Republican antitrust lawyer who spent 35 years as a justice on the Supreme Court, died Tuesday in a Fort Lauderdale, Florida hospital. He was 99.

The Supreme Court said in a statement that Stevens died from complications from a stroke he suffered on Monday.

Stevens retired from the court in 2010 at the age of 90, making him the second-longest and second-oldest judge to serve on the court. During that time, Stevens surprisingly morphed into one of the most passionate voices on the court’s liberal side. (The New York Times)
