MARY J. BLIGE: Drowning in Tax Debt Again

Mary J. Blige is over her head in tax debt.

The Grammy award-winning artist is accused of failing to pay taxes on income generated in 2016 and 2017. Last month, the IRS filed a lien against Blige, alleging a whopping $1,198,161 owed. Bossip reports that she hadn’t responded to the filing as of Monday.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because it’s not the first time. Back in 2013, it was reported she owed $3.4 million in taxes racked up over the course of three years.

Hot Takes:

  • In an interview last year, she said she never wanted to deal with the money side of the biz. But when she started getting sued and receiving letters from the IRS, she was forced to step up.
  • How many times do we have to say it? Uncle Sam doesn’t play when it’s time to collect.
  • I know it’s hard to write out a huge check to the government, but it’s gotta be easier than the legal fees, interest payments and embarassment that come with waiting, right?
  • Maybe we should start a crowdfunding campaign so she has no more financial drama.
