A Louisiana man drowned last week after attempting a romantic underwater marriage proposal.
Steven Weber Junior was vacationing in Tanzania with his girlfriend Kenesha Antoine. While free diving alone at the resort, he swam up to an observation window in an underwater room where Antoine was watching him. He pulled out an engagement ring and held up a note that read, “I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you but…everything I love about you, I love more every day. Will you please be my wife. Marry me?”
Seconds later he appeared to swim back up to the surface for air, but sadly he never made it. Antoine wrote in a Facebook post, “You never emerged from those depths, so you never got to hear my answer, ‘Yes! Yes! A million times, yes, I will marry you!'” (Buzzfeed)
Hot Takes:
- How awful. It was such a romantic gesture. He just stayed down too long.
- He should have known how dangerous this stunt was.
- It’s unclear whether he was an experienced diver.
