TRUMP JUDICIARY PICK: Nominee Tears-up during Senate Hearing

Lawrence VanDyke, a nominee picked by Donald Trump for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, broke down in tears Wednesday during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, as he pushed back at claims he wouldn’t be fair to people in the LGBTQ community.

The American Bar Association sent a letter to the committee on Tuesday that said VanDyke “would not say affirmatively that he would be fair to any litigant before him, notably members of the LGBTQ community.”

As he sobbed, VanDyke said, “No, I did not say that. I do not believe that. It is a fundamental belief of mine that all people are created in the image of God. They should all be treated with dignity and respect.” (FOX News)

Hot Takes:

  • It’s usually fairly embarrassing to breakdown in public, especially during a hearing.
  • VanDyke claimed he wasn’t given the proper opportunity to respond to the allegations during his interview with the ABA. No wonder he was upset.
  • Senator Josh Hawley said the woman who conducted the interview with VanDyke once contributed to the campaign of one of VanDyke’s opponents.
