A convoy of American citizens living in Mexico came under attack yesterday as they were traveling toward the Arizona border. At least nine people, including six children, were shot to death.
The ambush is believed to have been carried out by members of an organized drug cartel and may have been a case of mistaken identity. The victims were members of a large Mormon family living in a community in northern Mexico. An unknown number of people, many of them children, are believed to have survived and were possibly kidnapped.
Mexican security forces, supported by the army, the National Guard and local police are in the area investigating the ambush, looking for the survivors and trying to track down the gunmen. (CBS News)
