Elijah Cumming’s Wife Plans on Running for Her Husbands Congressional Seat

The widow of late Congressman Elijah Cummings announced she will run for her husband’s vacant congressional seat.

Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, who chairs the Maryland Democratic party, says she will make an official announcement today. She told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, “I believe very strongly that I have the background and the focus and the commitment and the ability to take the reins and to make a good run for this seat. I fought right along Elijah for the last 12 years.”

Cummings represented Maryland’s 7th Congressional District, which includes parts of Baltimore, since 1996. A special election for the vacant seat will be held on April 28th. (NBC News)
