The Saudi Air Force lieutenant responsible for last week’s shooting at a Navy base in Pensacola, Florida was upset because one of his instructors allegedly nicknamed him “Porn Stash.” According to a report, he was “infuriated” by the name.
Mohammed Alshamrani was so upset about the nickname that he filed a complaint with help from two of his American classmates. According to The New York Times, instructor James Day gave him the name during a meteorology class.
According to the complaint, Day singled Alshamrani out from a group of about 10 students and allegedly called him “Porn Stash,” a slang term referring to the type of mustache favored by adult film stars. Day then laughed and asked, “What? Have you not seen a porn star before?”
Alshamrani wrote in the complaint that he didn’t respond and Day “just let go of the subject,” but the damage had been done. Alshamrani said, “I was infuriated as to why he would say that in front of the class.” (FOX News)
Hot Takes:
- Of course the instructor’s allegedly name-calling was inappropriate, but that’s not reason to shoot up a naval base, if that was Alshamrani’s motivation.
- Different cultures often have a different sense of fashion.
- Day worked for a subcontractor that provided instruction to military and civilian students.
