Former national security adviser John Bolton dropped a bombshell on the impeachment strategy of Senate Republicans on Monday when he announced he’s willing to testify in Donald Trump‘s trial if he’s subpoenaed.
Back in fall, Bolton refused to testify in impeachment hearings held by the House, but apparently, he’s changed his mind, which could complicate Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell‘s plan to hold to Senate hearing with no witnesses.
Bolton said, “Since my testimony is once again at issue, I have had to resolve the serious competing issues as best I could, based on careful consideration and study. I have concluded that, if the Senate issues a subpoena for my testimony, I am prepared to testify.” (The Washington Post)
Hot Takes:
- It’ll be interesting to see how this will play out.
- Republican Senator Mitt Romeny said Monday that it was important for Bolton to testify.
- And Democrats say that if Republicans don’t allow Bolton to speak, it would appear to be a “coverup.”
