CORONAVIRUS: The Entire Country is on Lock down in Italy

The entire country of Italy is on lockdown after the number of coronavirus cases there increased dramatically there, making it the most-infected country outside of China.

On Monday, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said that citizens should not travel except for work or emergencies while all public gatherings and sports events have been suspended. The plan, designed to protect those most susceptible to the virus, will go into effect on Tuesday and will continue through April 3rd.

Conte said, “The right decision today is to stay home. Our future and the future of Italy is in our hands. These hands have to be more responsible today than ever before.” (CNBC)

Hot Takes:

  • The numbers surged on Monday with deaths in Italy going from 97 to 463 and the number of confirmed cases up from 1,807 to 9, 172.
  • Hopefully, the U.S. will not reach this point, but it’s possible.
