DONALD TRUMP: Extend Social-Distancing Until April 30th

Donald Trump has changed his mind. On Sunday, he said that the federal government will extend social-distancing guidelines through April 30th. This comes after Trump last week said he wanted the country to re-open for Easter Sunday, April 12th.

Speaking from the White House Rose Garden, Trump said, “The modeling estimates that the peak in death rate is likely to hit in two weeks. I will say it again. The peak, the highest point of death rates, remember this, is likely to hit in two weeks…Therefore, we will be extending our guidelines to April 30th, to slow the spread.”

“The peak, the highest point of death rates, remember this, is likely to hit in two weeks. Nothing would be worse than declaring victory before the victory is won.”

Trump added that his statement the country would reopen by Easter was “just an aspiration. We can expect that by June 1st, we will be well on our way to recovery.” He added that “a lot of great things will be happening.” (FOX News)

“We can expect that by June 1st we will be well on our way to recovery, we think by June 1st. A lot of great things will be happening. I want every citizen in our country to take heart and confidence in the fact that we  have the best medical minds tacking this disease.”

Hot Takes:

  • It would be helpful if Trump could keep his messages on point and based on facts, and avoid “hunches” or “aspirations.”
  • This isn’t the time for petty politics. We all need to join together to fight this virus by staying home and practicing social distancing.
  • We can worry about politics after we get through this.
