JAY-Z, BEYONCE: Sued Over “Black Effect”

Jay-Z and Beyonce were hit with a lawsuit by an artist who says they jacked the song “Black Effect.”

A Jamaican artist named Dr. L’Antoinette Stines says that she is renowned in Jamaica for her “artistry and wisdom.” In fact, she says The Carters have even reached out to her before to find dancers for their tour. Jay and Bey asked to interview her on camera about her views on love, and Dr. Stines agreed on the basis the video would be used “for promotional purposes only.”

Flash forward to the release of the Everything Is Love album. Dr. Stines says the entire first minute of the song “Black Effect” is her voice — used without credit, consent or compensation.

She’s suing for copyright infringement and violation of her right to publicity. (TMZ)
